The Scottish Pelagic Fishermen’s Association (SPFA) has paid tribute to Leslie Tait MBE, the former chairman and honorary president of the Shetland Fishermen’s Association, who has passed away.
Ian Gatt CBE, chief executive of the SPFA, said: “I worked closely with Leslie for many years, especially when I was president of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation and he was vice-president, and he was a true gentleman who was passionate about the fishing industry and the communities that depend upon it.
“He played a pivotal role in helping train and encourage young people enter the fishing industry through his work at the NAFC Marine Centre in Shetland, which underlined his determination to help safeguard the fishing industry well into the future.
“I enjoyed tremendously working with him where his gentle humour and steadfast approach during complex fisheries negotiations always shone out.
“Leslie will be sadly missed and everyone at the Scottish Pelagic Fishermen’s Association would like to extend our sincere sympathies to his family and all those who were close to him.”
