SCOTTISH PELAGIC SUSTAINABILITY GROUP MEMBERS
The Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group (SPSG) is a collaborative industry organisation that brings together various stakeholders from Scotland’s pelagic fishing sector, including fishers, processors, and other industry representatives.
The group is dedicated to promoting and implementing sustainability practices within Scotland’s pelagic fisheries, which target species such as mackerel, herring, and blue whiting.
By advocating responsible fishing practices, sustainable stock management, and the protection of marine ecosystems, SPSG aims to ensure that Scotland’s pelagic fisheries operate in an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable manner.
The group works closely with regulatory bodies, scientific researchers, and environmental organisations to develop best practices, improve fishery management, and obtain certifications like the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability. Through these efforts, SPSG seeks to safeguard the future of Scotland’s pelagic fish stocks while maintaining the economic vitality of the fishing communities that depend on them.
